Students need to be able to stay focused, ignore these extra details and find the right question in a particular edition.
Students need more pressure to identify what is needed to solve the problem, whether it is adding, removing, adding, sharing or combining them. They need a general idea of โโwhat information to use (or not to use) and what to do.
Here is a keyword scheme I would like to use in teaching language problems. Handouts can be printed in a smaller size and inserted into a variety of math notebooks. It can be placed in a math folder or in a ring binder under the math section if your students use a ring binder.

Just as it takes practice to learn to play the clarinet, to lose a football, and to draw pictures in a realistic way, it requires practice to become proficient at solving problems verbally.
They begin to notice similarities in different types of problems and can more quickly figure out how to solve them. They will gain confidence even when faced with a number of new language problems because they know they have managed to solve many problems in the old language.
