I moved to a new place and when I tried to empty the shower drain I found that the drain pipe was not touching the flange, there was about a 1/2 inch gap. I am now concerned that the water has seeped into the foundation of the house.

You should, if possible, look at what happens during the shower. If it’s a crawl space, basement, or downstairs, you need to see if the drain pipe has actually fallen. I say this because there is a possibility that the original installer installed the pipe to the drain collar but failed to apply PVC cement to the joint. As a result, over time, the joint can loosen and end up as you see it today.

If the assumption above is the case, this could be a relatively simple solution that would require two people to complete. First you need to clean all the dirt, sludge and gunk from the drain collar and drain pipe. In the case of a drain pipe, this must be done from below. When clean and dry PVC cement will be applied to the outside of the drain pipe from below and the other person will place it on the inside of the drain collar from above. Then the person below must push the drain pipe up into the collar. It may take some up and down action on the pipe to expand the PVC cement and work its magic in the joint.
It looks like the shower drain joint was never taped, and due to settlements the pipe dropped maybe as much as 1 1/2″ by 2″. Being able to reroll the pipe with something that fits inside the pipe (a plumber’s test ball with a chain and ring attached to it comes to mind) may be the best option to put it back together without tearing up the floor, but breaking up the floor may still the best bet, as I don’t see any forehead wrap visible in the drain. but that’s not the worst problem ever.
The hope is that IF there is gravel around the pipe and IF the pipe was plugged into the drain at once but not glued, then it would go up again. The movement will give the gravel a chance to “vibrate” around the pipe again and settle under the pipe to support it. The thing will be that the PVC glue and primer will not stay liquid long enough for all of this to happen. There’s a chance, first, to get it to rise again, second, to drop enough to get the primer and glue in there and give the tube one last upward pull to set the glue.

I might add that thorough pipe cleaning is a prerequisite for all of this. There may not be much you can do with the pipe itself, but the drain can be cleaned well so the glue has half a chance of sticking.
Moreover, it must be sufficient to build a bridge over the gap with a good degree of sealing. I want to make a point to pull the drain, because if it goes as low as I think, the slope of the pipe needed to get the water to flow where it should normally go is greatly reduced, or possibly going the wrong way while the pipe holds water.
I didn’t think they were available, but there are inside links at a big box store. If you can find an internal connection that would be ideal, although it will narrow the pipe a bit, but it shouldn’t affect the drain’s performance. After you get the inner coupler, to install it, first remove the “lip” that sits in place of the tube. From what I see in the picture, some of what goes into the existing pipe can stand to be cut off, the outer links put about 1″ of pipe in them. Check first, it can go in easily enough. If it’s hard, cut it to new length and cut the outside edge again to make it easier. the top so it can be cut so it doesn’t sit higher than the inside slope of the drain. A small piece of 2″ pipe will fill the gap to the top of the shower drain.
When you have everything ready and it looks like it will go together, prime and glue the pipe connection into the concrete. And provided that the small piece of pipe fits into the gap after the connection, glue all the surfaces and quickly slide the jot into the glue. Have a block of wood and a hammer ready to tap it into place if it is difficult when the glue is applied. That’s why I said “SINS” earlier. Everything can fit very well while there is no glue, but once glue is added EVERYTHING changes and now needs to stay on top. So I stress, make sure everything is clean, cheerful, easy to put together without glue, then glue it and go for it.

As a note: PVC joints are made so that they get tighter as the pipe goes on, so measure carefully and DO NOT put everything in place as far as possible (if you do, you can’t take it out again because it won’t be there nothing to hold to remove it) then stick it and go to the last set.
