Tree furniture builders have their own tricks. We saw bicycle chains, bottle caps, and even beloved stones with a unique shape, which were used to split indentations and the appearance of antique tables and the like. But how to remove accidental dents from the wooden surface? Or even misdirected? There is a very magical way to fix them. Use a steamer.
For a video demonstration of how to do this, we sought out wood expert and addict Izzy Swan, the maniac who figured out how to turn wooden balls with a circular. In the video below, Swan shows how to take an average steam of $ 20 and use it to apply steam for a few minutes to make holes in the wood. After evaporation, it leaves the board dry for about 30 minutes and quite amazingly, the holes practically go away. It also shows how you can remove dents from a tree by applying a damp cloth to the hole and then rubbing it with a hot iron for just two minutes.

Now, why does this process work? Well, especially with recreation, wood fibers are compressed and crushed, not something heavy … often a hammer or something hard that falls on the wood.

As we have written in other posts, moisture plays a big role in the way the tree moves and lasts. Wooden cells are filled mostly with water. And although some of the water can be removed by drying process, the water still remains in the cell walls. How much water will be lost depends on the moisture surrounding the tree.
Thus, if the humidity increases, the moisture content of the wood also increases and the wood expands. And steam (which will greatly increase the humidity in the environment) is what helps the compressed fibers of the hollow wood to return to their original shape. Wood fibers swell from moisture. It will not return exactly as it was, because broken hair is broken. Woodworkers are advised to repeat the plank / steam process until the recess is removed. And in those cases when you still are not satisfied after the multiple evaporation, then maybe it is time to go to putty or wax or other fillers.
It is probably more likely that the holes have torn some of the wood fibers, so in the event of drilling errors there is only so much steam that it can make. The process closes the hole considerably, but as Swan notes in the video above, you may need to finish loading. Use glue, and after it dries, finish it with light sanding.
After sanding, you may want to touch it with wax or light stains to visually minimize any remaining dents or holes.

To remove a dent from a tree, start pouring about an ounce of water on it. Then put a damp cloth over the recess. Allow the water to soak in while warming the iron clothes to the highest level. When the iron is hot, press it on the fabric and move it in circles gently. Once the fabric is dry, check the recess to see if it lifts. If the tooth is still bad, wet the cloth again and repeat the procedure. After the wood has dried for a few hours, brush with a protective finish, such as paint or laminate, to protect the wood and cover the recess.
