Even at those prices, the bits didn’t sound very good. I’ve been testing different Beats models over the years – the portable folding Biffy “Studio” and “Pro” sets – and I’ve found that each pair is inferior. There are headphone scads that offer much better sound for the same meaning or less. Deepen the mystery, the Beat are historically so minimally dependent on construction, you will be lucky to get a year of them.
And yet they are everywhere. People love them. The reason I fail to understand the reasoning here is that I don’t work in marketing. Anyway, I was curious about the new Bluetooth models – as brutal as the Beats – and celebrity headphones in general. I try to seize every opportunity to be fascinated, to see the light, and to transform, so when a pair of new wireless bits crossed my desk, I gave them a hard jolt.
While these $ 280 headphones are instantly recognized as bits, there are a few key differences. First of all, there are no wires – these are Bluetooth headphones, so they rely entirely on a Bluetooth connection to transmit sound to a smartphone, tablet or PC. (Even a mini cable doesn’t have the option to attach, which is weird.) There’s also an array of buttons at the bottom of a ring in the right earcup. By tapping different points around the ring, you can adjust the volume, navigate the track, switch the power, and manage Bluetooth pairing. In the center of the ring is a silver play / pause button engraved with that big red “b”.
Like other Beats cans, the frame tool is almost all plastic, except where the headphones are folded to fit with the carrying case. The hinges are metallic, but they are quite flimsy and do not inspire confidence.

I was not satisfied with the word. Shaft is like a blow to the chest. The low levels are brutally forward, exploding and swaying. The rest of the soundfield is pumped to compete with the lower end wall, but these are all gunk things. The highs are dull and devoid of any vitality in the middle, forcing the vocal cords to become hollow and the acoustic instruments to be muddy, processed and unnatural. There’s no place to breathe in the subtle words, even the less decent details like hi-hats and snares are all splat and thud.
Now there’s a big caveat to consider: these are Bluetooth headphones, so the audio is compressed to deliver a wireless jump from the source to the speaker. But compared to other similarly priced Bluetooth headphones – the Sennheiser MM 400s ($ 260) and the AKG K830s ($ 250) – it’s clear that the Beats have a lot of flavor. While other models are able to reproduce sound naturally, bits unnecessarily decorate the lows and roll the top more aggressively.
If you’re strong and strong, the bits will probably fascinate you when you put them on for the first time. But after 20 or 30 minutes, I just wanted to finish it. I endure hours of daily listening sessions for a few weeks, and at the end of each, I had to go back to my trusted ATH-M50 headphones and rearrange my control before continuing with my day.
One thing I don’t have to do is recharge them often. Battery life is very impressive – Soldier bits through regular use for several days in charge. Also, Bluetooth connections have been maintained in different environments. Across the office and around the house, I felt only a few drops of the signs and only when walking about 20 feet from my source.

There were some issues with my design. The head is as tight as a clamp, and since these are headphones on the ear, the leather cups pinch the ear uncomfortably. Well, that control ring is vague. When I thought I had found the right bump to turn up the volume at my fingertips, I pressed it and – oh – we jumped to the next track. It happened again, where I had to remove them and try to remind myself where every control was.
Finally, I made a few phone calls. The audio quality was so much on both ends of the line, but I think they work on impulse.
The weight and folding features of Bluetooth, easy travel design and strange ergonomics in contrast to the low sound quality, these bits will be my second or third choice among the Bluetooth Models in the $ 150 to $ 200 Price Range
Great battery life. Excellent folding design keeps things compact. They look pretty cool. Your friends will catch you and LeBron James BFF.
