In terms of consumer heritage, aesthetics are paramount to Beats. And Mixrs has nothing in this area. The brand is strong but not powerful (well at least not for the black ones I have here). But looks are just as important as engineering, but thankfully, the choice of style doesn’t hurt the functionality.
The faucets are sleek, curved and without sharp edges, and are quite discreet on the head due to the 40mm design on the driver’s ear. And while the rings are bold (like red wires), the overall aesthetics are minimalist. The vast majority of DJ headphones are generally undervalued, and it’s good that Beats Mixrs continues down this path. But if you want to make more statements, you can choose white or red.

Introduction – I listened to a mix of House, hip-hop, classical and jazz, using a combination of iOS devices, audio interfaces and straight from vinyl to get the best spread of sources and features to get the full picture.
But I hate writing this part because it’s a completely subjective opinion based on personal hobbies and individual hearing characteristics. One thing is for sure – they are famous. The 40mm drivers deliver great volume and don’t seem distorted even when driving. I tried to find the right numerical specifications to see how they compared to others, but it bothers me if they are almost impossible to find in the box, on the Beats page, or elsewhere. And while I know that people make their purchasing decisions based on scientific data, I don’t, and I use ears, especially in the case of headphones. So somehow I’m glad this information is hard to find.
If I described sound in meaningful words, it would probably be “full” and “alive.” DJ headphones are usually low-frequency to mimic what the podium is listening to, and some Beats Mixrs have a very low tip. However, all frequencies seem to be included, so Mixrs is great for tracking the mix, but it can give a different picture of what’s going on on the floor. I certainly wouldn’t recommend making them, but for DJ performance and casual listening to your collection, they’re pretty good, although I realized that depending on what I’m listening to, I need a break from the often-filled sound.
