The RV entry door lock shown above has probably been installed on hundreds of thousands of travel trailers, fifth wheels and trucks over the years.
In this article, I’d like to share a few tips that will help you avoid flare-ups on your trip.

This allowed the back plate to close, which in turn allowed the nightstand connecting link and blind bolt to fall out of the cast holes and allow it to work.
Locking the lock is simply a matter of throwing the link into the hole and screwing the back plate back on tight as the only thing to keep the plate from falling out of the hole.
Put a little Loctite on the screws to prevent this from happening again. Fortunately for me, the connection was broken after the connection was removed.

I have 18 Vista 31 BE. The entrance door of the wave does not open, all the windows are closed, this door is the only entrance. It won’t lock (smith lock confirmed), he checked to see if he could get in through the window but couldn’t find a way in (didn’t pay me). It’s not frozen; Heat inside, and I made a little house with blankets hanging over the doors and kept a heater inside, no change.
I called the dealer and they had no advice other than to refer me to a mobile RV service tech because I can’t drive or tow it. No mobile RV service (over 70 miles).
Entry Door Stuck
We are taking a trip to the water to be with family, so we can stay at home, but most of our clothes and stuff are stuck in there. Then we have to go home on the 26th. I will call the factory on Monday (the 24th) sorry for the bore, we are 50 miles from Forest City if I need to get a part (don’t know if it could be factory direct).
How did it get stuck? On our 14 Sunstar, the screen door would sometimes lock if it was misaligned or something on the hinge side was sliding it off. (I have a coat hook on this wall that sometimes gets a coat stuck on it.
OTOH, I’ve read places on here that warn that some door locks have been recalled for a similar issue. You can check this out.
If your lock is like our Sunstar, the spring bolt will slide back when the door is closed, unlike a door lock.

You can pry/bend the aluminum pad covering the latch door gap and then use a putty knife / butter knife / hacksaw to move the latch.
The door won’t open at all. The door handle moves through its full range of motion, but the door won’t move more than 1/8 inch. I also tried the “push” suggestion but no luck. I’ve added photos to my hand.
Do you have alignment switches out there? If so, raise or level the coach. They can become blocked by a bent door frame when leveling or when parked on uneven surfaces.
Thanks, but no, the trainer does not have an external level. It’s been installed for a couple of days and it hasn’t changed.
Main Door Stuck Closed!
The plate on the inside of the door that holds the mechanism can be pulled completely out of the door and moved slightly toward the door jamb and deadbolt with the mechanism operated by an external key. If so, the deadbolt has barely fit into the rectangular holes, but just enough to prevent the door from opening. You can’t move it with the key, but if the door is open, you can put it on with your fingers or use the latch button on the inside of the door.
You can move the door back and forth 1/8” which tells me that the deadbolt lock that is held on the big round pin is released and not the problem, it is the deadbolt plunger to hold the door closed.
This happened to my 2015 Vista, luckily I noticed it before I uninstalled. The fix is to position the plate correctly and then tighten it with the loose screws that hold the plate in place once it’s in. If the screws are not tight enough, there are no index pins to prevent the plate from sliding out of place, so tighten them firmly once in.
Before breaking the window, I suggest you remove all the screws from the door edge where the latch is raised and carefully expose the jamb and the space around the door edge so you can try to push the bolt into the slot with a tool like grease. knife or similar. After you use the deadbolt wrench, you move it out of the door until the wrench reaches it.

There was a time when my RV door (and lock like yours) stuck when it was cold outside. Let’s say this is your problem:
I think the table on the outside lock handle is NOT with the locking mechanism. The solution is to fold the table…after you open the door.
When the door handle didn’t work, I grabbed one of my little picks ($4 at Harbor Freight) to go up my step near the driver’s window, and I spread it out enough to pick out two sliding windows. to receive. close the lock table. Then I got into the driver’s window and made everyone laugh, and the doors opened from the inside. It worked so easily, I don’t know why we locked the RV, now I keep one of the window locks open in case (or when) the door lock goes bad.

So … after trying to remove the trim to get to the lock (failed), trying WD-40, then moving and cursing at the latch, my six-year-old nephew stood and opened it. It moves 3/8 inch up/down/left/right through the door and the entire lock appears to be loose.
