As a nail technician and GelMoment distributor, I am often asked by both customers and clients how to fix damaged nails. So let’s take a closer look at how damage occurs and what to do to restore healthy nails.
The first step in repairing damaged nails is to determine why or how they were damaged. Went to your local salon for an acrylic or dip kit and the electric file was abused? Has there been any improvement from the temptation to pick and shave? Do you bite your nails or wrap your skin around your nails? All of these have caused damage, but the repair reaction remains the same.
How To Restore Damaged Nails
Keep your nails short. With a good nail clipper, click the length of your fingers, then file it smoothly. If your nails are damaged, they are likely to be thin and brittle. If you keep the length on them during the repair, they tend to catch on things and tear. If you’ve never had a broken nail in the nail bed before, trust me – you don’t want to! By presenting them briefly and smoothly, you can avoid further damage.

Use a high quality nail oil. The key to repair is keeping the nail plate thoroughly moist while the damage is growing. Apply nail oil to the base of the nail and the surrounding tissue twice a day
