Fiber rust repair is inexpensive and effective. I have been doing it for many years and they are getting better. After 2 or 3 years, some finishing may be needed around the edges. The biggest advantage of fiberglass: it does not rust.
1) Start with a paint knife and remove as much loose paint and rust as possible. Look for ink that pops up. There is rust there. Use a hammock and hammer to remove more loose material if necessary.

3) Release an inch or two of bare metal from the rusted edge by sanding with a 5-inch round sand disc placed on a drill and thick sandpaper. Hard-to-reach parts of the damaged area will be removed manually or using a small rotary tool such as a Dremel tool. I like to use cutting wheels.
1) Make a pattern of rust to transfer to the fiberglass sheet. Glue a sheet of paper (printing tape works well) over the rust and mark the inch beyond the rusted edge using the Sharpie marker. Cut it out and cover it with rust with masking tape and add or cut as needed.
Now place the paper template on the fiberglass fabric and mark it with markers. Cut the mattress with fine scissors. Double-sided tape every few inches along the entire upper edge of the rust. Now carefully apply the top of the fiberglass fabric to the ribbon and let it hang there.
1) Check the product label for mixing instructions. My fiberglass Bondo package called for 28g of resin for 14 drops of solids. I need only a small batch for the first trick, so I mix 14 grams and 7 drops.

2) Try to fit the fiberglass fabric along the contour of the panel by all possible means. Discarded cardboard boxes or grain boxes attached to the dashboard to follow the contours work well. This starter kit is for those who have a hard time believing my claims. This stuff is really effective and I want to prove it to you. I have used all the unexpected products in the last 45 years that I have been working on classic cars. (And do you believe I have about 300 cars). Shelf life: The shelf life of Miracle paint varies depending on the storage temperature and the length of time the contents of the can open to air.
