After cutting the metal, close the hole with a piece of wax paper and apply a mixture of fiberglass filler and hardener. Allow the mixture to dry for about an hour, then scatter the wax paper. The first step was to scrape off the loose paint surrounding the rust stain and sand most of the rust.
