Alternatively, you can get a Dremel with a soft wire wheel (be careful!) to clean up the rust, then paint the small bottles with primer and clean the area. It may not sound great, but it can significantly slow down your progress. Or, if you don’t have a time machine, I’ll carefully check the bonnet every time I change the oil and touch new stone chips before turning them on that thread.
